Three generations the Vaccaro family have produced wine here in Camporeale, within a small farming community in the heart of the province of Palermo. First came Giuseppe who, during the 1950s, began to experiment with the vinification of Catarratto and Nerello Mascalese grapes in his small shop. His wines were destined to the taverns of Palermo where they quickly became very popular. Encouraged by the success, Giuseppe decided to expand the company in 1963, buying more land and a new building in Contrada Macellarotto, to which a further ten hectares were added in 1986. The name Case Alte refers to the high ground on which the buildings that will later house the company cellars stand, the place where Giuseppe – with the help of his son Calogero – decided to add Syrah and Nero d’Avola, all organically farmed.
In 2010 Calogero’s young son – also named Giuseppe – joined the company and the ownership invested in the construction of a small cellar, writing a new chapter in the family’s winemaking history. Each bottle is an expression of the passion that has linked the Vaccaro family to Contrada Macellarotto and Case Alte for over fifty years. A love that looks to the future, with particular attention to sustainability and organic farming, mindful of its roots and the care that past generations have given to each single bunch.
